Trickster Hares Beveren Breeder
More Information
Trickster Hares Farm has been raising Beveren since 2012, and we also raise Belgian Hares. We were previously located in Sonoma County, California, and since 2018 are located on the Western Slope of Colorado in Cedaredge. We have interest in sustainability, raising our own food, while maintaining the genetic strength of our heritage breeds of animals, and showing competitively to make sure we are on the right track with management of this breed. We are in celebration of the wonderful qualities of rabbits and honor their mythological heritage as the trickster, including tricking us to spend so much time and energy on them! And we love every minute. In the show ring, we placed Best of Breed in West Coast Classic, the largest West Coast show, for four years running. We placed Best Opposite of Breed in National Convention in Del Mar, CA in 2016, and Best of Fur in National Convention Portland, OR in 2015. We raise our rabbits with a lot of love but focus on well-rounded quality, with what we keep, show, and sell. We never sell animals that we wouldn't keep ourselves for showing or breeding, and that includes personality.
Whites won our hearts first due to their gregarious personalities, larger bone, handsome faces, thicker ears, and longer, more plush rollback fur. The large chunky heads of the bucks and the complementary wide faces of the does are something we strive for. We work to preserve purebred genetics here, and that includes avoiding inbreeding that can cause bottlenecks in the future, including concentration of recessive traits, weaker immunity, and a reduction in intelligence and personality. We do occasionally have show stock from our blues that we held onto from the move.
Beveren are the ultimate well-rounded breed, providing food, fur, showing competition, and entertaining, mellow personalities with a bright and engaging intelligence. See for yourself!
